To live in Japan safely
Carrying insurance would be the important readiness for you to study and live in Japan free from care. At Intercultural Institute of Japan, students are required to join both the National Health Insurance system and the designated insurance system by us (Gakusei Kyusai-kai; insurance for student cooperation)
1. National Health Insurance
This is the national insurance of Japan, and the government generally covers 70% of the medical treatment fee. Those who stay more than one year in Japan must apply for this insurance. You can make an application at municipal offices where you live. The insurance fee for one year is about ¥8,000 - ¥10,000 (the cost and how to pay differs in each city/ward/town). You can apply for this insurance at municipal offices after you have received your Certificate of Alien Registration.
2. Kyosai-kai Insurance; cooperative insurance for Japanese language school students
All students at Intercultural Institute of Japan will apply for this insurance. The benefit of having this insurance is that you will receive a further 30% rebate on what you have already paid by using 1/ the National Health Insurance card. Additionally, it also covers the medical treatment fee for the person who was accidentally injured by you, the fee for long-term hospitalization and the cost for your parents to come to Japan to see you when you are hospitalized (the covering charge and its rate differs due to the condition). The one-year cover charge is about¥10,000. You are required to join this insurance at admission to Intercultural Institute of Japan.
