Long-term course

It is a Japanese learning course with the duration of one to two years after one’s student visa is obtained. The content of this long term course is to meet each student’s needs such as individual who wants to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, to enter into Japanese college, or to study business Japanese. Extracurricular activities such as Japanese speech contest and one night hot spring trip are also available to facilitate the learning process. The campus is located at Akihabara, Tokyo.

  • The training of Japanese language instructor for foreigner seminar is held from January to March every year.

About teaching

In an “I want to learn Japanese,” states its meaning but many different purposes are found. Intercultural institute of Japan’s long-term course is to meet each student’s needs so that they are able to choose courses that suit them. Beginners learn the basic Japanese in the beginner’s level (General Japanese time). Starting from level 3, learning-purpose oriented classes are available to fulfill students’ needs.

General Japanese

• It is a class according to one’s Japanese level.
• It is a class to develop correct grammatical knowledge and expression such as listening, speaking, writing and  reading.
• Classes will be divided into general and academic advance studies once student has reached to level three or above.
• People who are seeking for academic advance studies are recommended to go to the academic advance class.

Purpose-oriented elective Class

There are many learning purposes such as individual who wants to pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test, to enter into Japanese college, to study business Japanese, and to learn more about Japanese culture.
• Individuals can choose their own courses that suit their learning purposes.
• It starts with and from level 3.

Kanji Class

Classes are divided by “Non-Chinese character area and Chinese character area” to organize the students into classes.

In our school, we have 11 levels of classes from 1 level which is zero beginners to 11 level which ability is almost as same as Japanese native speaker. This will assure you to studyin a class that is appropriate to you.

In our school, we have 11 levels of classes from B2 level which is zero beginners to A1 level which ability is almost as same as Japanese native speaker. This will assure you to studyin a class that is appropriate to you.

0~3 1 From basic beginner to conversational ability.
4~6 2 Basic grammar is completed and adding on to basic conversational skills, the ability to understand and express ideas.
7~9 3 Ability to communicate with ease and continue conversations.
10~12 4 Can express complex ideas and use language appropriate to the situation.
13~15 5 Ability to understand newspapers and magazines and can express opinions.
16~18 6 Debating and negotiating skills are learned as well as proper use of expressions and advanced vocabulary.
19~21 7 Orally responding to arguments and novels and increasing reading abilities while being able to explain the storyline of written works.。
22~24 8 Complete ability to understand Japanese TV and newspapers.
  9 Can respond to a wide variety of topics and can discuss complicated and abstract ideas.
  10 Understand university lectures and can compose logical arguments.
  11 Near ability of Japanese speaker.

Class Hours and Japanese Level

Students take four 50-minute morning or afternoon classes. Classes are scheduled according to the level of Japanese. Students in the Basics to beginning Intermediate levels attend classes in the morning and advanced Intermediate to Advanced level students take afternoon classes.

Course Commencement and Application Period

Students wishing to enroll in the long-term course will need to apply for a student visa. Please plan ahead (How to apply for the long-term course) as it will take time to prepare all the necessary documents. Application forms are accepted approximately six months prior to your desired date of entrance. Students applying from overseas should contact the Study Abroad Office or inquire using the Inquiry Form (A form provided on the Contact us page).

Fees

Tuition fee may be paid by half year basis. Textbook fee is NOT included. Also, all the students are obligated by the law to join the Japanese National Health Insurance.
